We will hear and discuss the Symphony’s April re-creation of their very first program in 1962. Then and now it includes a wide variety of delightful music, such as Mozart’s “Impresario Overture” and “Fantasia on Greensleeves” by Ralph Vaughan Williams, along with two pieces for the soprano soloist: “Una Voce Poco Fa” from Rossini’s Barber of Seville, and “Depuis le Jour” from Louise, by Charpentier (sung then by Beverly Sills, a new talent on the scene). Tchaikovsky’s “Piano Concerto No. 1”, a toccata by Frescobaldi and a rhapsody by Chabrier completed the program then and now. George will also regale us with his fun inside stories.
