Once again tensions have increased in the fragile relationship between China and Taiwan, with the United States an active third party. This time the situation is particularly perilous, with some analysts predicting a Chinese invasion. We will review the historical path that led the three parties to where they are today, and then explore what lies ahead. The talk will apply some general research findings regarding crisis behavior and escalation to the evolving situation, as well as examining the unique aspects of relations among China, Taiwan, and the United States.
