4/19: The Case of Ukraine
What are the motivations behind Vladimir Putin’s actions in Ukraine and elsewhere? Russian security?  A new Russian empire?  Personal glory?  Professor Leng examines these questions, and how the answers affect how the West should respond to Putin’s actions, not only in Ukraine, but in the future.

An overview of legal, moral, and practical issues related to intervention, with illustrations from the historical record of the U.S.  Followed by an in-depth look at the U.S. intervention in Afghanistan between the 1979 Soviet invasion and the 2001 American-led NATO invasion.
