The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston is currently hosting
an exhibition of six paintings by Titian, each of which is based on a myth included in Ovid’s Metamorphoses.  In this session we will view the six paintings from their mythological roots with expanded background stories on each tale.  These masterpieces were created in the mid-1500’s as a set and are together again for the first time in almost 500 years.

The paintings in the collection are:

    Danae
    Venus and Adonis
    Diana and Acteon
    Diana and Callisto
    The Rape of Europa
    Perseus and Andromeda

We are very fortunate to have this exhibit so close to us as this is its only appearance in the United States.  Knowing the mythological setting for each painting will enhance your enjoyment and appreciation whether you can get to the Gardner Museum in person or just enjoy the exhibit on Zoom in this session.
