The School of Paris refers to the French and many emigre artists who worked in Paris in the first half of the 20th century. Paris at that time was the center of the art world, becoming a mecca for the artists who gathered in the cafes, salons, and shared work spaces and galleries of Montparnasse. Many artists of Jewish origin formed a prominent part of the group — three of particular note were Modigliani, Chagall, and Soutine. Beth will discuss the School of Paris in general as well as the lives and famous works of these three prominent artists.
