In following the road to the American Revolution, various subjects come up, like the concepts of “taxation without representation” and natural rights … also key events such as the Stamp Act, the Coercive Acts, the Boston Massacre, and others. Not frequently mentioned, but significant, are religious issues, particularly in Massachusetts. Ron will explore the impact of religious issues in the pre-revolutionary period and the significant role that a Martha’s Vineyard born Congregational minister, Jonathan Mayhew, played in the development of revolutionary thought.
