The Joy of Looking at Things

Richard Ogden Perry
Visual Artist / Intaglio Reliefs
Exhibits at Boston Museum of Science & Cape Cod Museum of Art

One Class
1:30 – 3:00
November 14

Richard will explore how all our senses meet in our brain to perceive art, why each of us looks at art differently, and how art has taught us new ways to see.

He will show some of his recent watercolors, explain them and the concept of avatars in art, and show and discuss watercolors of selected famous and local artists of similar sensibility. (See below)

Words from Richard about his watercolors and avatars….

“I call myself a visual artist because my inspiration and joy emanate from looking at nature. Especially the close observation of things while drawing or painting them. Many artists turn to still life subjects, especially in times of isolation.

During the Covid years I found myself and my world diminished.  I think most of us did.

For me and another artist friend, still life watercolor painting became a way to stay sane during the time of Covid. Looking closely at things gave us joy and kept us focused on a small slice of the real world when the outside world was confounded with meta non sense.

We also integrated ourselves into our paintings by way of avatars. This is also common to many artists and deserves explanation.

During the month of October, I am exhibiting my Covid era watercolors and some of my friend Sarah’s at the Brewster Ladies Library.”
