Norman Rockwell was an “American Original.” One of our most beloved artists, he captured some of our deepest emotions on canvas and produced some of the most iconic and uplifting images of American life. Underlying every Rockwell painting is the belief in the power of storytelling. Yet, he was not the Norman he appeared to be — he was a complicated individual, whose private life in no way reflected what appeared on his canvases.  He also became controversial and politically active in the latter part of his career.
