Four classes
1:30 – 3:00
October 26 and November 2, 9, 16.
Following the Classical period in music (1750-1820) which often used short, fragmentary, and thematic material, the Romantic period from about 1830-1900 tended to make greater use of longer, more fully defined and more emotionally evocative themes. Joe will explore this artistically elaborate period starting with Beethoven who turned the Classical era upside down and into the Romantic era. He will then look at other composers from the Romantic era including Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn, Clara and Robert Schumann, and Brahms.
