In the Baroque era (roughly 1600-1750) the notion of the orchestra came into its own, and composers started to layer instruments up in complex polyphony, different musical parts, and harmony.  Joe will illustrate these developments with many of the famous composers of that period, including Monteverdi, Strozzi, Pachelbel, Purcell, Vivaldi, Telemann, Bach, and Handel.
