As we near the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, we’ll look at the enormous influence of two Barnstable siblings on the development of the ideological underpinnings that led to the American Revolution. James Otis was outspoken and prominent in the movement, and is often referred to as “the spark of the Revolution.” His sister, Mercy Otis Warren, played a much lower profile role due to the role of women in the 18th century. Nonetheless, she was highly influential as well.
