When cold weather strikes, IFAW staff regularly call its volunteers to assist them in saving a dolphin, porpoise, or seal stranded on Cape Cod’s shores. These remarkable animals get stranded for a variety of reasons and are at the mercy of the tides and predators. These events are not only a unique opportunity to rescue and give cutting-edge veterinary care to individual animals, but they drive ongoing innovation and ground-breaking research shared with collaborators from around the world. IFAW’s expert staff and volunteers have responded to over 6,000 stranded marine mammals since 1998.
