During the 1920s, a unique group of artists, writers, and thinkers was active in Harlem, New York. Together they created the Harlem Renaissance, a movement dedicated to showcasing the work of the powerful, creative, and inspiring members of their own community and to making African-American art visible to a much larger audience.
