4/10: 9:30-10:45 Orleans Elementary School (OES) – Caitlin Dailey, Art Teacher, and Elaine Pender, Principal, will discuss arts integration in the school curriculum and demonstrate how art is now incorporated in many different subjects. Caitlin will explain how students use technology in the creation of their projects and we will see students’ work throughout the school. Caitlin herself is an artist who specializes in mixed media sculpture. 4/10: 11:15-12:30 Wildflower Pottery, Brewster – Ruby Calderwood grew up spending time with her father, Clay Calderwood, in his studio (Clayworks on Rte 6A) and developed a love for ceramics. She has taken over her father’s 40 year-old studio and will give us a demonstration of her ocean-inspired colors, textures, and clean design.
4/17: 10:00-11:30 Provincetown Art Association & Museum (PAAM), Provincetown – Our favorite annual visit with Christine McCarthy, Executive Director. She will walk us through the museum’s spring exhibits. PAAM will feature a member show entitled “Freedom,” which will coincide with the Provincetown 400 initiative celebrating the first landing of the Pilgrims in Provincetown. Chris will also show us works from their youth education program students. The PAAM Museum fee will be waived at the door but a donation and/or annual membership is suggested. 4/17: 11:45 – 1:00 Hilda Neily Gallery, Provincetown – Hilda is a Plein Air Impressionist painter who has been painting the light of Provincetown since 1968. She was a student of Henry Hensche for 15 years, and also teaches at The Cape School of Art. She will show us how she uses light and “sees” color to create her paintings.
4/24: 9:30 – 11:00 Cape Cod Museum of Art, Dennis – We will meet with a museum docent who will host us for their main exhibit on antique print making and will give us a tour of the additional galleries. Cape Cod Museum of Art will charge $5 without membership or museum pass. 4/24: 11:00 – 1:00 Nicholas Dorr, Dennis – Nicholas is a nationally known set designer for productions on the Cape, on Broadway, and throughout the United States. In his studio, he will show us his miniature set designs and discuss how he creates the scene for stage productions. He is also an actor.
5/1: 9:30-11:00 Maureen Naughton, Orleans – Maureen is an artist who draws inspiration from the sea. While she works with oils, three years ago she was introduced to the ancient form of encaustic wax – the process of sealing with a blow torch layers of bees wax and pigment – a demonstration she will give in her studio. 5/1: 11:30-1:00 Richard Perry, Brewster – Richard has been a multifaceted artist on the Cape since the late ‘70s. He studied the physiology of the eye and brain leading to his understanding of relief painting. He produces holographic intaglio reliefs using clay and light in his studio.
*Limited Enrollment Details: Class attendees will include the first 15 individuals registered, plus a second group of 15 chosen by lottery. Lottery selection drawing is on March 13. Drawing for the second 15 will be made from all names that have registered by midnight on Thursday, March 12 (with the exception of the first 15 individuals who will already be in). If you are selected you will be contacted by email or phone. Classes require standing for one to two hours, walking in Provincetown, and stairs at some venues. Each person is responsible for arranging transportation to and from each venue. Class members will be emailed weekly about time, directions, and parking.
