The poetry of this nation matured in the 19th century and grew to one of the glories of modernist literature in the 20th century.  Our most famous poets: Frost, Whitman, Dickinson, Eliot, Hughes, to cite a few, are read and loved throughout the world.  We will reacquaint ourselves with poems well known and discover new favorites.

* The text for the course is 101 Great American Poems (Dover Thrift Edition), supplemented by contemporary verse drawn from The Poetry Foundation and available online.
