In this course we will travel from Shakespeare’s first masterpiece, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, to one of his last, The Winter’s Tale, and explore how his belief in the possibility of miracles and wonder was implicit at the start of his career and ripened to full maturity at its end in The Winter’s Tale. Over five weeks we will read both plays and view highlights from critically acclaimed film versions of both.
