Photographic light, that is. Revered for architecture, symbol of love, nexus of inspiration—Paris has always drawn artists, sculptors and writers into its aura. Not least among them are photographers, who not only documented the life of this vibrant city, but were welcomed as full contributors to emerging visions of art. We’ll focus on the first half of the 20th century, when Atget, Cartier-Bresson, Brassaï, Kertész, and compatriots roamed the cobbled streets and along the Seine, living en amis with the likes of Picasso as well as denizens of the Parisian night. The city came alive in their eyes, giving us the chance to fall in love with Paris all over again.
