At its core King Lear is a devastating play about love, family, and power, and Shakespeare very consciously turned it in these dark directions to explore the limits of tragedy. In this four-week class we will view two versions of the play and use them as a way to understand why he made the decisions he did, what separates good acting from bad, and what gives the play its undeniable power.
