This course is a two class offering that will consider the public career of John Quincy Adams. The first class will examine Adams’ education, his career as a diplomat, and his tenure as perhaps America’s finest Secretary of State. The second class will examine the contested election of 1824, Adams’ single term as president, 1825-1829, and his unique post-presidential tenure of nine terms in the US House of Representatives from 1831 to 1848.
